Trip to Adam’s Peak

Ella Rock climbing & Nine Arch bridge

The small town of Ella is nestled in Sri Lanka’s scenic Hill Country. Ella Rock provides a steep but rewarding climb rewarded with panoramic views at the top. At 1141 m tall, it takes about 3 hours to ascend and 2 to descend along the clear path. Stop to catch your breath while marveling at the surrounding emerald tea plantations as you scale this peak.

Join with us later to visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a landmark railway structure built under British colonial rule in 1921. Walk across the bridge, admiring the stonework and epic views of waterfalls, forests, and hills. With its cool climate, striking landscapes, and adventures like scaling Ella Rock, it’s clear why Ella draws adventure travelers.

Pidurangala

Pidurangala Rock is an enormous boulder located a short distance from the Sigiriya fortress. The hike takes you through trials surrounded by woodland and past a small Buddhist temple. Scramble your way up giant granite boulders to reach the top, marked by a small dagoba. The panoramic views from the rocky summit are spectacular – you can take in the striking form of Sigiriya Rock itself, forests, and all of the landscape encircling you.

Pidurangala offers a quieter, more natural alternative for witnessing epic views compared to the crowds scaling Sigiriya. Descending is quick, and you’ll be left feeling a sense of accomplishment after conquering this lesser-known but remarkable climb.

Little Adam’s Peak

The aptly named Little Adam’s Peak stands at 1141 meters tall and offers hiking opportunities near Ella town without the commitment of scaling the real Adam’s Peak. A clear trail leads you through lush tea plantations as you make the gradual ascent to the peak. At the top, a small Buddhist temple awaits amid spectacular 360 degree views over villages, lush greenery, waterfalls and mountains. It takes about 1-2 hours to reach the top at a relaxed pace.

Watch the morning mist roll through the hills and valleys below as you take in the breathtaking panorama. Little Adam’s Peak makes for a pleasant half-day hike and is a great warm-up before tackling hikes like Ella Rock.
